President’s Newsletter
April 2025
At last, the unseasonable weather is getting behind us. We have a lot of events coming
up and contests for those who thrive on competition and pushing the extremes of radio
communication. The newly formed radio direction finding group, better known as fox
hunting, is having its first meeting on May 17th . Send an email to wcarc@w3aro.org and
someone will contact you with more information.
The WCARC weekly keeps growing with participation since adding Netlogger to sign in.
If you can’t make a meeting, signing onto the net is the next best thing. It’s a good place
to catch up on what’s happening within our group.
At the April meeting, Mark KZ3MW gave an informative presentation about HF
transceiver controls. Our goal is to have a presentation at every meeting with something
for the novice and the expert. There is always something to learn even after you thought
you knew it all!
The Field Day committee had its first meeting on April 21st . It was decided to once again
meet the challenge of using batteries and solar panels to power equipment and run on
low power (QRP). There is a possibility that we will fly a weather balloon with an end fed
antenna attached, weather permitting. Make it a point to join us on June 27th for set up
and then operate from the 28th through the 29th .
Rich AC2GI will be giving a presentation about “Ham Alert” for all you digital radio
enthusiasts at the May 20th Meeting. Plan to be there!
