March 2025

March is finally behind us a creeping towards warmer weather which means activities
will begin.
The Fox Hunt group will be getting together for the first time this month. Equipment
testing and planning will be the kickoff for planning our first real Fox Hunt in the near
future. We encourage anyone to join in on this fun event that will span through the
coming warm months. Contact us at WCARC@W3ARO.ORG for more information.
Field Day 2025 is upon us and planning is underway. Some interesting things are in the
works for this June event. You don’t want to miss it. Check this website frequently for
more information and updates on Field Day as well as other important topics and
events.
So far this year we have had educational presentations after our meetings. This month
featured a presentation by Ken WB2HJQ about lightning and antenna grounding. It was
a fascinating educational awareness to understand how lightning works and how
important it is to make sure our antennas, towers and radio equipment have good and
proper grounding. You don’t have to be a member to visit our meetings and enjoy our
monthly presentations.
Since WCARC began to use Netlogger and changed our Friday evening nets to 7:00
P.M. we have had a huge increase in participation. It has been personally satisfying to
hear from many of our club members and operators outside our membership. I received
a QSO card from Mark KE8HGS who lives in Indiana that checked into our net.
Although we were unsuccessful after a couple of attempts to get back to him, we did
have a brief QSO. Amazing the things that can happen with radio waves!
Remember we have many volunteers that can aid in getting antennas repaired or news
ones put up along with excellent advice in setting up a new shack. Contact us through
our e-mail.
See you at the next meeting on April 28 th !
