On the weekend of (Sat-Sun Sep 9-10) are two significant events for the Wayne County Amateur Radio Club.
We’ll be competing as an ARRL Affiliated Club and setting up on the mountain site at Flat Rock Rd that we used for the June VHF Contest this year.
We will be running a new mode for the first time on 6 Meters: FT8 digital. It’s a digital mode that even works well on “dead” bands and is oriented to contest operation (minimal exchange – callsigns, signal report, grid squares) and quickly fills up a log. In addition to trying out / using a new mode, we’ll also have the mountain set up with 2M / 70cm atop the AB577 tower, 6 Meters with the 3 element beam, and 1.25 M (220 mHz). Set up is Saturday morning – talk in on the 146.655 WB3KGD repeater. Contest begins at 2 pm local and runs through the night until 10 pm Sunday.
The other event is the Salvation Army Emergency Preparedness Fair at the LaDore Conference Center in Waymart where we’ll be an Exhibitor and Presenter. We’ll be setting up an HF station with our 2-80M OCFD supported by the TLT and the station itself set up in our Exhibit Booth area. We have brand new trifold brochures describing the Club, and of course we’ll have shirts and games for sale. The Fair is from 10 am-3 pm Saturday. We’ll be setting up Friday night from 5-7 pm so we’ll avoid getting in the way of everyone else that will set up on Saturday morning. The staffing schedule for both of these events can be found at
